NYCDOT Unionport Road over Amtrak

In 2018, the New York City Department of Transportation initiated the rehabilitation of the Unionport Road Bridge over Amtrak and CSX. The bridge carries one lane of traffic in each direction and is adjacent to the White Plains Road bridge.

Community Outreach

Melissa Johnson Associates is an important part of NYCDOT’s project team, facilitating communication with local stakeholders and assisting with coordinating road closures with New York City Transit. Construction of the bridge involves a long-term closure of one lane of traffic on the bridge, detouring motorists, and a key Bronx bus route via White Plains Road.

The local community includes several small businesses, as well as significant pedestrian traffic that needs to stay up to date on changes to traffic patterns, pedestrian access, and construction noise in the area. Melissa Johnson Associates’ community liaison maintains frequent contact with the community board and field inquiries from local elected officials.
