NYCEDC Howard Beach Resiliency

The New York City Economic Development Corporation, on behalf of the Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency, is addressing the vulnerability of New York City’s shorelines due to long-term sea-level rise. In Howard Beach (Queens), several local streets have been identified for improvements to protect the upland community from future flooding.

Stakeholder Engagement

Melissa Johnson Associates assists NYCEDC and the Mayor’s Office with stakeholder needs and concerns for proposed resiliency improvements, including developing a public engagement plan, coordinating with elected officials, developing digital and print distribution materials, and facilitating communication with homeowners whose properties are adjacent to impacted public property that will be under construction. Outreach to homeowners involved discussions regarding access to properties, scheduling, and coordination with regard to property lines.
