The New York State Department of Transportation has initiated the Van Wyck Expressway Capacity and Access Improvements Project (Contract 3), the state’s largest construction undertaking, to widen the Van Wyck Expressway, rehabilitate and replace nine bridge structures, reconfigure ramps, add a managed use lane, construct retaining walls and noise barriers, complete utility, draining and sewer work, and coordinate improvements to New York City Transit structures. The project leads directly to the doors of JFK International Airport, and is part of the state’s $13 billion plan to transform and modernize the airport.
