NYCHA Outreach Services (Residential Buildings)

On behalf of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), Melissa Johnson Associates is conducting public outreach surveying to gather health and safety information concerning lead paint, window guards, and stove knob coverings in public housing apartments across New York City. NYCHA, like all NYC landlords, is required to send residents Annual Notices on lead paint, window guards, and stove knob covers. As part of this initiative, MJA’s team of project managers recruited, trained and supervised a large team of NYCHA or low-income residents in best practices for grassroots outreach and door-to-door surveying. MJA’s outreach and engagement with residents supported NYCHA’s overall goals to gather data that helps maintain and improve safety within residential housing complexes.

MJA’s role included obtaining information and feedback from NYCHA residents on safety improvements based on the composition of each household and the current status of lead paint, window guards and stove knob coverings in each household. MJA managed the project with an aggressive schedule to ensure compliance with NYCHA’s internal deadlines. As a result of MJA’s skilled project management, the project finished ahead of schedule, reaching 12,531 households in the span of two months in 2023. MJA’s work included over 70,000 units for 2024. MJA created specific backend data entry systems to track NYCHA Outreach Specialists’ work across the five boroughs, which enables the team to identify units that require revisits, and allows the team to schedule assignments efficiently.
