The North/West Battery Park City Resiliency project (N/WBPCR) is a critical component of Lower Manhattan’s comprehensive coastal protection strategy, designed to safeguard communities against climate change, storm surge, and rising sea levels. This transformative resiliency initiative will protect Battery Park City’s western shoreline through the integration of permanent and deployable flood protection measures, including floodwalls, barrier systems, and deployable floodgates. The project strengthens the long-term resilience of critical infrastructure, residential buildings, open space, and waterfront amenities while maintaining public access and neighborhood character
Melissa Johnson Associates (MJA) serves as the community outreach consultant for Battery Park City Authority’s Owner’s Representative team. In this capacity, MJA functions as a strategic extension of the BPCA Communications and Public Affairs team, providing high-level communications counsel and stakeholder engagement guidance during final design and into active construction.
On behalf of Battery Park City Authority, MJA ensures that the design-build consultant’s outreach efforts align with best practices, community expectations, and the evolving needs of a high-profile waterfront resiliency project. This includes reviewing and strengthening the project’s overall outreach and communications plan; advising on website design, user experience, and accessibility; and ensuring that newsletters, digital content, and text message notification systems meet agency expectations. Overall, MJA helps BPCA maintain transparency, clarity, and public trust throughout project delivery.
