NYCDOT Protective Coating of Various Bridges in Queens

The New York City Department of Transportation is performing painting operations on six bridges in Queens including Borden Avenue Bridge over Dutch Kills, Hunters Point Avenue Bridge over Dutch Kills, Queens Boulevard Bridge over I-278, 65th Place Bridge over I-278, Cross Bay Boulevard Bridge over Nassau Expressway, and the Guy Brewer Boulevard Bridge over Belt System – Southern Parkway. The operations for each bridge includes abrasive blasting, surface preparation, and application of protective coating. The project will prevent corrosion, improve aesthetics, and extend the usable lifespan of each structure.

Melissa Johnson Associates’ dedicated Community Liaison works closely with NYCDOT’s Division of Bridges Community Affairs to keep the local communities directly adjacent to these projects informed on upcoming construction activities that may impact their daily routines. The six bridges within this contract are in-community bridges adjacent to single-family homes, apartment buildings, schools, and small businesses.

The community liaison develops and distributes important notices, construction bulletins, newsletters and other project communication materials to the local community, and responds to questions and concerns via email and the project outreach hotline. Given the sensitive nature of abrasive blasting and painting, the community liaison is also responsible for the mandatory 30-day community notification for lead paint removal, and for coordinating and facilitating emergency services coordination meetings at each bridge site.
