In 2020, the New York City Department of Transportation initiated the Rehabilitation of Hill Drive, known as “Terrace Bridge", over Prospect Park Lane in Brooklyn. The landmark structure was built and designed by Calvert Vaux in 1890, and was previously known as the Breeze Hill Bridge.

Melissa Johnson Associates team of community outreach specialists is responsible for developing the project’s outreach strategy, and coordinating with many interagency stakeholders, including NYC Parks, the Prospect Park Alliance, Landmarks Preservation Commission, New York City Council, the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, and several community boards.  MJA’s team works with the design consultant to obtain regulatory approvals, develop presentations and brochures, and create informational materials for public meetings. The outreach team also anticipates and mitigates community issues that could arise during construction, particularly regarding NYC Parks activities and events in Prospect Park. The community liaison assigned to the project is also responsible for coordination and collaboration with stakeholders during field activities.

Prospect Park is home to one of New York City’s most famous trees, a mutant elm named Camperdown Elm. The tree originated in Scotland and came to Prospect Park in 1872, where it was planted behind the Prospect Park boathouse. The tree has unusual branches that grow parallel to the ground instead of upward.
