In 2017, the New York City Department of Transportation initiated the rehabilitation of the 49th Street bridge over the Grand Central Parkway in Queens. Located directly adjacent to one of New York City’s largest cemeteries, as well as numerous residences and businesses, and active New York City Transit bus lines, the bridge carries two travel lanes in each direction.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
For the 49th Street bridge project, Melissa Johnson Associates has a dedicated community liaison who works with the local community to mitigate construction issues and concerns. Through attendance at local community meetings, collaboration with St. Michael’s Cemetery, and coordination with other agencies including NYCDEP and NYSDOT, the public is alerted of upcoming changes and impacts in the local community.
